How Far So Far! Let Us Rise And Develop Our Country – By Longji Friday Dagwa

Year in year out, the hand of clock on governance changes as the parties’ names and slogans do but remarkable change is yet to be witnessed in the lives of the people. After these series of changes have taken place one will hardly notice if it has produced any marginal impact as expected. To be more realistic in a way, these significant changes instituted across societies that have made progress were instituted by human beings and as a way of responding to these changes, sacrifices are also to be made by people on streets. Here people hope for improved conditions of leaving, but our commitment to this seems so minimal. In our hopes for a better living, we are consumed by poverty, vulnerable as a result of war, wallowing in hunger, oppressed by those we have voted to take care of our national treasury, oppressed by their children and family, in fact, we have been reduced to nothing despite the fact that we have everything to offer. In a country with population of over 170million, a larger percentage of the population seems to be living in high distress with a poverty rate of 63.6 percent as of October 2017.

What have been the challenges?
Same recycling of cabals’ year in year out, even though some individuals have distinguished themselves by contributing to a robust fraction of the economy. People like the Former Minister of Agriculture Dr Akinwumi Adesina who stood his grounds in a government marred by challenges of incredibility; today, he is well celebrated as the Chief of African Development Bank and also awarded the Nobel Prize Award for Agriculture in Africa.

To submit further one can’t notice any substantial change going on, except the stories of how cabals have adopted the sharing formula of the national wealth. Even when people are yet to achieve basic necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, health services, some cabals have already assured these services for their children and even their fifth generation to come. These leaders are these same people we have taken our energies to the streets for, just to ensure they got to power. We have great feelings of insecurity while they have security for all they could care for. These same leaders have collected monies from different sources and have enslaved the future of the country with little or no development to show for these loans received.
To be able to make great progress in measureable terms, thee cabals must be shown he way out. We cannot harbor green snakes in the green grass even when the season is dry. We also we better cultivate the habits of not recycling these cabals back into power. These so called cabals have no word such as progress in their dictionary and so when we speak of progress from development and growth perspectives, they see it from the amount of sovereign wealth they are better able to steal and hide in coffins.
Former Governors, senators, executive and high profile stake holders solidly depend on pension not on our votes. This has evidently showed itself in the activities of former governors, becoming senators, and in some instances, some were even ex-military officers. This sounds so foolish to the hearing of many enlightened people.
Our solutions are in our hands. If we need greatness, we need to seek for it, fight for it, accompany it, adapt it locally, and then measure all these along parameters that depict progress.
Nigeria will be great if we rise and demand for its greatness!
