Jos — Plateau State Coordinator, Fadama III Project, Mr. Gideon Dandam, has said that the programme would focus on large scale farming in its new phase of activities to boost agriculture in the state.

Dandam told newsmen in Jos that Fadama III was initially supposed to end in 2013 but for its impact which led to an extension.

“The project was planned to terminate by December 2013 but because of the impact it created nationwide and the relevance it has also given the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) of the Federal Government, it has been extended,” he said.

Dandam told newsmen in Jos that Fadama III was initially supposed to end in 2013 but for its impact which led to an extension.

The coordinator, who stated that in the extension, attention of the project would be focused on large scale farming, said: “The federal government in conjunction with the World Bank extended the Fadama III project to end by December 2017.The fund given for the initial programme that ended 2013 was to last for five years, and as result of the extension, the federal government went and sourced for additional funding from the World Bank.”

Dandam added: “The programme is expected to focus on large scale production this time around and they are going to spend the resources to encourage farmers who are into groups to embark on large scale production. No more forming of new groups; no more going to service of small unit farmers. This time around, we are going to bring a congregation of Fadama groups to be based on commodities,” he said
