The Chairmen of 17 Local Government Football Association in Plateau State have said the news making the round that they have endorsed the Chairman of the Plateau State Football Association, Hon. Sunday Longbap, to be appointed as the General Manager of Plateau United Football Club of Jos is untrue.
The chairmen in a press statement signed by the FA Chairman for Mangu, Hon. Isa Musa, and FA Chairman for Kanke, Hon. Emmanuel Musa, and made available to the Eagle Online in Jos on Tuesday dispelled the rumour.
According to the statement: “It has become necessary for us the FA chairmen of Seventeen LGC of Plateau State football Association as one of the major stakeholders in the state to dispel the rumor making around that we have endorsed the chairman Plateau State Football Association Hon. sunday Longbap to be appointed as General Manager of Plateau United Football Club Jos.”
According to them, what is required for all football stakeholders in Plateau State is total support for the new General Manager of the Plateau United, Pius Henwan, who is an experienced football administrator in the state.
They said Henwan was working very hard to ensure that the club performs very well in the current season and establish the team as a formidable force in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
They said: “We want to state clearly that we are not and will never be a party to any move by an individual or group that is out to propagate its selfish agenda and also to distract the new general Manager in his effort to reposition the club as one of the best in Nigeria.”
The football chairmen said Plateau United were denied promotion to the premier league for five seasons in the National League before the last season.
They said the victory was even almost stolen by enemies of the club within and outside the state who have been sabotaging and are still sabotaging the club for their personal interest.
They said: “As a conscious minded group abreast with current issues in the state, it is illogical, insensitive and unpatriotic for us to embark on such a wild goose chase that will not serve our interest, Plateau United FC and Plateau State Government.”
They appealed to all football stakeholders in the state to rally round the administration of Governor Simon Lalong who appointed the new general manager to bring back the lost glory of football in Plateau State.
