Equality in Education: A pathway for Nigerian Youths – BY Longji Friday Dagwa

The present challenges that surround us as a country calls for a revamp in our education sector, this will bring a real turnaround in the context of the institutions.
As a country one will notice that the education sector has produced a lot of graduate who on a long-run end up not benefiting from the expansion of the system. Furthermore, this system was said to be glorious at some point in time, but now, these same persons that benefited from the proceeds of a good economy have truncated the system, leaving the system now at its lowest point. This fact is far-fetched looking at the statistics of graduates on a yearly basis around the spheres in the country, one will have to say that the system has been working quite on a snail pace as the education sector is yet to make landmark improvements. The anomaly in the system could also be as a result of continual modernization of the curriculum to favour the few who are unsecured of losing their position in the society for the generation. Furthermore, our inability to localize the concept of learning has created a lot of misconceptions where our education has little contact with indigenous structures. Additionally, like vocational training which give one an opportunity to learn out of the four walls of the classroom, little attention is given to that in terms of funding looking at the allocation proposed to education currently in the 2018 budget; another major set-back!
Inequality in education has given roof to so many ills at present i.e the independence people of Biafra (IPOB), boko haram, organized crimes, other Armed operating Groups, etc are a product of people who send their wards abroad schooling in return are possessed by foreign culture in a quest to secure a life for themselves and surppress people on the street and grassroots who have little opportunity for quality education.
To strike the balance between the poor and the rich, equality of education should be the only auction we need as a country to function.

If every child irrespective of political and social class is given equal opportunity to good quality of education it will help not only in producing researchers but also policy makers. There is a need for people quality in our education sector and also the need to improve craft skills through qualitative vocational studies. The labour of our heroes past should not be in vain, we have heard, seen and we need to conquer. When people are taught practical skills, the chunk of unemployed youths out on the street will become self-reliance and employers of labour.
The time is at hand, as a country what will befall the future is realizable, achievable and sustainable.
Let’s gear toward a country where our political office holders’ children will compete favorably with those on the street under the same atmosphere.
What will be of the future if our educational system keep producing achievers, accumulated brains and accomplished men and women that don’t pass the bulk to the next generation? The result is our educational system will be seen as a failure as the case maybe at present. Let have a generational educational sector that will turn every nooks and cronies in the country into paradise of accomplishment..
