News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero is dead. He died on Friday morning after a prolong illness that have seen him going abroad for treatment.
Bayero was the second most important Muslim ruler in the northern part of the country and also one of the longest reigning in the Kano emirate. The emir ascended the throne in 1963 and was once a former ambassador to Senegal.

He had worked as a bank clerk for the British Bank of West Africa before winning a seat in the Northern Regional House of Assembly in 1954. Bayero also joined the Kano Native Police Authority which he headed till 1962.
He was aged 83 and will be buried later today. The late emir is survived by wives, many children and grandchildren.
