The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has thrown its weight behind the establishment of State Police to end the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians and for effective community policing and maintenance of law and order. The church made this known in a Communiqué issued in Jos at the end of a meeting of Coalition of ECWA Plateau comprising Eight District Church councils (DCCs), over recent attacks of villages and killings of over 200 persons in Plateau State.

“The ECWA church on the Plateau is in total support of the establishment of State Police, for effective community policing and maintenance of law and order,” it said. Chairman of the ECWA Plateau DCC Fellowship Rev. Dr. David Jonah and Secretary Rev. Sylvanus Mato, who both signed the communiqué, said the State Police will be better placed to know the nooks and crannies of its community and its peoples for security check and monitoring.

They expressed sadness over the recently killings in the state and call on the Federal Government to recover villages currently under forceful and illegal occupation by the Fulani herdsmen in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, Bassa, Mangu and Jos South LGcs in order to allow the displaced to go back to their ancestral homes.

“The church is sad over the horrific killings, destruction of property, farm lands and crops, displacement of the natives from their ancestral homes and lands and forceful occupation of their inheritance by the Fulani herdsmen with little or no efforts from Government, to stop them considering the sophisticated weapons used against the helpless people who are mostly Christians,” it said. The communiqué, however, refuted claims by the Plateau State Government that there is peace in the state.
