In the light of the ravaging Ebola virus which is sweeping through most of West Africa, the Plateau State Government has fingered several problems are the key challenges for diagnosing and eradicating the spread of the deadly viral disease. The factors outlayed by the Government, include the on-going nationwide Medical Doctors’ strike, lack of laboratory tools to carry out test, and lack of personal protective attires for health worker. It would be recalled that Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) recently killed one person in Lagos and several alarm bells have been raised on other parts of the country, even though no additional cases have yet to be confirmed.

PLSG disclosed that it has trained and strategically stationed 37 surveillance officers from the 17 local government areas of the state to detect and reveal any possible presence of the disease in any part of the state, saying it is leaving nothing to chances.

Speaking to journalists, the state’s Chief Epidimeologists, Dr Raymond Jurit, on Saturday said the trainees were expected to train others in their respective Local government areas on how to identify the symptoms and take remedial action.
