(DR.) BAPIGAAN WILLIAM AUDU ON THE OCCASION OF CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY, ON WEDNESDAY, 12TH AUGUST, 2020.

PRESS RELEASE BY COMRADE
Gentlemen of the Press,
Since the year 1999, the United Nations has set aside the 12th of August each year to be marked as International Youth Day.
The International Youth Day is a day dedicated to celebrate the Youth, raise awareness on challenges confronting these subset of peculiar individuals, as well as call for action from all stakeholders in the Youth Industry in filling gaps in Youth development.
The Theme for this year’s commemoration: ‘’Youth Engagement for Global Action” could not have been more apt.
With the COVID-19 Pandemic ravaging the world as well as the International dimension that crime has taken, it has become more imperative for collective global actions towards solving the problems that the local and global communities are grappling with.
In similar vein, the problems that the 21st Century youth is faced with (though different depending on clime) can be better prevented and or solved when actions are local and global in nature and effect.
Furthermore, the theme of International Youth Day 2020 seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions, and processes as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal / informal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.
Therefore, youth must rise to frontally challenge the negative perceptions and scale over the barriers that continue to stand in the way of political emancipation and economic liberation of the youth from the twin dangers of political godfatherism as well as poverty which continue to deal repeated, sustained devastating blows to the body of Nigeria Youth.
This year’s commemoration offers in no small measure, a glimmer of hope for all young persons facing one challenge or the other especially on the Plateau.
If we can join hands locally, then we can generate traction for our actions that can create national, international awareness with the attendant effect of sustaining global actions to propel the improved welfare and quality of life for the youths.
Inferiority complex, selfishness, thuggery, slander must have no place in our thoughts or actions, if indeed we are to rise to the Rubicon we desire.
We must sort ourselves out by ourselves. No one will be able to carry out this onerous task for us but we ourselves!
Money must not be the only currency we transact with and cling onto.
Integrity,self- reliance and love for one another and our communities must underline the very essence of our thought processes and visible actions.
To all Plateau youths, I implore us to remain steadfast and perseverant as our cause is sure to become better soon.
The pains and tears of yesterday and today will not last for long.
Be assured of my highest and most sincere regards on this August Occasion.
Happy International Youth Day 2020 my fellow Youths!
God bless the youth!!
God bless Plateau State!!!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!!
Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta!!!!!
Signed:
