The Tax Force personnel, who were said to be armed to teeth, arrived the market area around midnight of yesterday when shops and house owners were sleeping.

News reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that there was a tense atmosphere on Tuesday in Bukuru, the capital of Jos-South local government area of Plateau state, following the overnight demolition of over 1000 shops and houses in the market area by members of a Task Force.

The Tax Force personnel, who were said to be armed to teeth, arrived the market area around midnight of yesterday when shops and house owners were sleeping.

The victims of the incident alleged that the Plateau state government did not issue any prior notice before taking the decision, adding that they (victims) were refused admittance to pack their goods and property.

According to a shop owner in the market, “We were not given notice before the decision was taken. Moreover, the government did not allow us to get our goods packed. This is not proper.”

But the Plateau state commissioner for environment, Solomon Marren disputed the allegation, saying that a notice was given and people had already packed their belongings before government took its decision.
He said, “Sufficient notice was given to everyone and people have packed their belongings before we took our decision; we are doing this to construct a new road for the development of the area”.
