Following the repeated attempts to oust the Honourable speaker of the House of Assembly for Plateau state Mr. Clark Dabwan, ViewPointNigeria can authoritatively report that political intrigues and manoeverings have continued to blight the selection of a new speaker for the house. Our correspondent who was present at the State House of Assembly complex yesterday reported that the members were unable agree on a consensus candidate for the speakership position.

Front runners for the position included Hon. Istifanus Mwansat (the former speaker), Hon. Timothy Golu (the chief whip) and Titus Alams (member representing Bokkos constituency). Mwansat who was considered the most likely choice for the position was reported to have expressed reservations about occupying the position again and therefore another Hon. member Timothy Golu was put forward by the Mwansat camp.

Investigations by our sources however show that the Government’s choice appears to be Hon. Titus Alams -a prudent and astute politician from Bokkos constituency, but that several members of the house have expressed reservations about his capability and therefore appear to be backing the candidature of Hon. Titus Golu.

The Hon. speaker Clark Dabwan was said to have headed to Abuja, seeking the goodwill of Plateau Elders to intervene in the matter. So as it currently stands, the situation in the house still remains a conundrum because it was unclear whether the replacement of the speaker would be effected. Several observers have blamed the happenings in the house on the approaching 2015 elections -averring that the leadership of the state were positioning themselves in a manner that they crush any opposition and ganner the requisite allegiance ahead of the polls.
