The Plateau state commissioner for Information, Mr Yiljap Abraham has disagreed with the Transitional Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council (LGC), Mr Gyang Audu on the call for total withdrawal of the Special Task Force (STF) from Plateau.

Abraham said the withdrawal of STF will not accomplish the desired peace in the state while calling on communities to engage each other in dialogue for a peaceful co-existence. He said that the STF will eventually be withdrawn when people agree to live in peace regardless of their differences.

“When you reach that point, then you will now start talking in the reduction of the numbers, a gradual withdrawal. But the total withdrawal at once at this point may not solve the purpose that we want,” Abraham stated.

It will be recalled that the caretaker Chairman of Riyom LGC last week called for the total withdrawal of the STF saying they have overstayed their welcome as a result of the unprofessional manner some of their personnel operate. The Chairman was not happy that some of the STF personnel were compromised and tend to be biased as residents have accused them of involvement in most of the attacks. He appealed to the Federal Government to start a gradual withdrawal of the STF to be replaced by policemen and other security agencies.
