Reports reaching VPN indicates that the death toll from the sectarian violence in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau has claimed close to 40 lives and valuable properties. The Special Task Force (STF) maintaining peace in the State mobilised more of its operatives to curtail the situation. Pocket of violence were reported in the hinterlands as at Tuesday morning.

The senator representing Plateau Southern Zone in the National Assembly, Mr Victor Lar called for peace and urged the warring factions to shun violence. He said the attacks and reprisals were counterproductive to development in the zone. Lar called on traditional, community and religious leaders to call on their subjects to sheath their swords and embrace dialogue. The lawmaker called on people of the zone to report suspicious movements and activities to security operatives and not to take laws into their hands.

It will be recalled that VPN earlier reported the resumption of hostilities in Wase and Langtang South LGAs where about 11 people were killed over the weekend.
