Dariye decamps from PDP to APC

Former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau Central Joshua Dariye elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at last year’s  general election has decamped from the opposition party to All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decision of the lawmaker to dump his party for the ruling party was disclosed at the floor of the Senate on Thursday in a letter read by the Senate President Bukola Saraki. The 2-term Governor of Plateau State crossed immediately from the wing where his former party members sat and joined his ‘new brothers and sisters’ at the other wing.

Addressing journalists at the end of the plenary, Senator Dariye cited the current crisis rocking the PDP at the national level as his main reason for dumping the umbrella party. He also claimed to have consulted his political supporters before taking his decision.

Dariye was born in July 27, 1957 in Horop, Mushere, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. He assumed office as the Governor of Plateau State on May 29, 1999 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was re-elected for another four-year term starting in May 2003, and was impeached in November 2006.

In April 2011 he was elected Senator for Plateau Central on the platform of Labour Party.
