The suspended chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Dr. Haruna Dabin has resigned his position from the party. This is coming even as the national secretariat of the party has faulted the suspension order slammed on the erstwhile party chairman and called for his reinstatement.
Dabin in a letter of resignation written to the PDP National Chairman stated that he resigned to contest the 2015 governorship election while appreciating the party leadership and Governor Jonah Jang for the support he got during his tenure.
It would be recalled that Dabin got suspended as chairman by the state executive committee (SEC), of the party which mandated the deputy chairman, Hon Raymond Dabo to act as Chairman pending the outcome of a disciplinary inquiry against the former chairman bordering on gross misconduct.
The national secretariat of PDP in a letter addressed to the suspended chairman that was dated July 9, faulted the suspension and maintained that it will continue to recognise Dabin as state party chairman. The PDP National Secretary, Prof Wale Oladipo who signed the letter urged those who issued the suspension order to act within the provisions of the party’s constitution.
It read “The National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party has received news of some controversy on the legality or otherwise of certain actions by some members of the Plateau State Executive Council of our party. For the avoidance of doubt, the NCW wish to refer all concerned to the provision of our constitution, especially Article 57(7).”
“The NWC hereby directs your good self as the state chairman to ensure that Plateau State PDP remains respectful of the provisions of our constitution in this regard. Finally, NWC wishes to emphasise that it is an offence under Article 58 (i) for any member to engage in unauthorised publicity of disputes within the party.”
