Court sentences 2 students in Jos for possession of fire arms

A Plateau Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos, has sentenced two students of the Federal College of Education, Panshin, Plateau state, Panret Jacob, 22; and Peter Wunying, 24; to two years in prison for unlawful possession of firearms and six months for conspiracy.
The Judge, Mr Yahaya Mohammed, who did not give the convicts option of fine on the six-month prison term, gave option of N20,000 fine on two-year term, noting that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who would want to indulge in such acts.
The convicts had both pleaded guilty to the two-count charge, on arraignment.
Prosecutor, Anthony Enegbenore, had told the court that the students were arrested with a locally-made double barrel pistol, a fabricated pistol and fabricated cartridges, in contravention of Section 27 of the Firearms Act.
