Plateau state government is set to establish a forum of all ethnic groups in the state to help in consolidating the relative peace being enjoyed in the state. This was disclosed in an address at the third Plateau Peace Architecture Dialogue held at Plateau Government house Jos by the Special Adviser to Governor Jonah Jang on Peace Building, Mr Timothy Parlong.

The Special adviser said “The Plateau Peace Architecture Dialogue was designed to highlight key concepts of unity and love among citizens of the state, and with the objective to celebrate diversity of ethnic nationalities in the state. Plateau is host to all ethnic nationalities from across the country, and for all of them to live in peace with one another, there is need to foster cordial relationship among them. This is why the 3rd of this peace meeting has been enlarged to bring together all the leaders of ethnic nationalities in the state together. The next step is to form a Jos community leaders’ forum which is necessary for the consolidation of the prevailing peace”.

The event which was attended by forty leaders from different ethnic groups in the state called on the state government to constitute a committee made up of ethnic nationals to avert any future crisis. The discourse was at the instance of the peace building unit of the governor’s office in collaboration with Search for Common Ground, which is an European Union Funded Organisation.

Country director of Search for Common Ground, Chom Bagu said, “The light of peace is currently shining in Plateau state all efforts should be put in place to sustain the tempo. There is a universal renunciation of violence and plateau citizens should be at the forefront considering their sad experience of recent past.”
