Community Development Projects Testify of NYSC’s Relevance — Lalong

Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau says the impact of NYSC community development projects especially in the rural areas, bear testimony to the relevance of the scheme. ‎

Lalong said this at the closing ceremony of the 2017 Batch “A” stream 2 orientation programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Mangu, Plateau, on Tuesday.‎

Represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Danladi Mang, the governor noted that products of the scheme had contributed to socio-economic development in the state.

“The contributions of your predecessors in the areas of infrastructure development, ‎education and healthcare delivery, particularly in the rural areas, bear eloquent testimonies of the scheme’s abiding relevance.

“I, therefore, urge you to strive even harder as you go to the various parts of the state for your primary assignment, to bring about the needed positive change in the various areas such as human capital development, provision of potable water, healthcare and education, especially in the rural areas.”

Lalong warned against the rejection of corps members by relevant organisations, in view of a circular from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and urged employers to comply with the directive.

The governor assured the corps members of their safety throughout the duration of their service in the state.

“I must assure you that your safety and w‎ell-being will be accorded prime attention wherever you find yourself within the state,” Lalong said.

Earlier, the NYSC coordinator, Mrs Olufunmilayo Akin-Moses, advised the corps members, especially those posted to the rural areas, to embark on community projects that would address major challenges such as water supply, community health and basic sanitation.

He emphasised the need for corps members to be of exemplary behaviour in all their undertakings as they represent the best of Nigerian youths. (NAN)
