News reaching ViewPointNigeria has suggested that the Fulani and Tiv communities in Nasarawa State have resolved to live in peace for the interest of peaceful coexistence, cultural and socio-economic development.

To this end, leaders of the two warring factions yesterday, in Lafia, the state capital of Nasarawa state met at what could best be described as a historic Sallah celebration organised by leader of the Fulani community in the state, Ardo Lawal Dono. Dono explained that the gesture was aimed at cementing the hitherto frosty relationship between the Fulani and Tiv communities.

Ardo Lawal decried the loss of lives and property in the recent skirmishes between the Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen in the state, noted that there could be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour hence the need for both the Fulani and the Tiv communities to embrace dialogue in resolving their differences. “The Fulani and Tiv people have been known for their oneness.

We have a long standing relationship of a peaceful coexistence for decades and so, we should not allow anything that will break this kind of love we enjoy amongst ourselves,” he stressed. Speaking at the occasion, President of Tiv Development Association, TIDA, in the state, Comrade Jacob Angwe and his youth counterpart, Hon. Peter Igbacher Kwembe who both applauded the convener for his foresight, expressed optimism that the gesture would serve as a corner stone for the total restoration of peace among their communities.

The TIDA president commended the Emir of Lafia, Alh. Isa Mustapha Agwai I for his tireless efforts towards ensuring the return of peace among the Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen in particular and other warring ethnic nationalities in the state, just as the Tiv youth President urged other communities in the state to emulate the peaceful disposition demonstrated by the Fulani and Tiv communities in the state. Leaders of the affected communities in company of their various followers had paid Sallah homage to the Emir of Lafia, who urged them to embrace each other for the interest of peace and development of the state.
