A Stakeholders Meeting of the People’s Democratic Party in Mangu Ward 1 of Mangu Local Government Area Plateau State was held on Sunday 9th July, 2017 at LEA Primary School Jwakkas.
It was a well-attended meeting with attendance cutting across different cadres of the party’s membership and structure. Unit Chairmen, elders, women, youths, and former government appointees all sat under the guidance of the Ward Executives including critical stakeholders like Prof. Shedrack Best, Hon. Ibro Manset, Hon. Yohanna Dada, Mr Jakden, Comrade Mangna Yusuf Wamyil, and many others.
High point of the meeting was the disclosure of a declaration of interest by a sizeable number of APC members within the Ward to join the PDP.
Another topical issue that attracted many contributions is the news of the defection of Col. Samuel Fwangje from the party. The letter he sent indicating the withdrawal of his membership was read out to the hearing of all by the Ward Secretary Mr Amos.
As the meeting gained momentum, it became visible that the much anticipated fear that the Colonel’s defection may lead to a mass exodus of members, was not only unfounded but a wasteful exercise of imagination. His core supporters including those who have been with him through thick and thin took turns to dissociate themselves from his latest political migration.
By the time the meeting was inching closer to its end, it became crystal clear that Col. Samuel Fwangje Rtd left the party alone.
At the end of the meeting, members were admonished to remain steadfast in their support for the Party, and resolute in bearing true allegiance to it. It was a joyous and emotional meeting for many seeing how the Colonel’s people bid him farewell for the first time after many years of political association.
The Ward Chairman Mr Caleb Kyenmang thanked the stakeholders for attending the meeting and congratulated those formerly associated with Col. Samuel Fwangje Rtd for their courage to remain in the party at a time some people are abandoning it for the party in power.
Signed
Mr Yusuf Idris Shepe
