News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has trained journalists in Plateau state on self-defense, to enable them to avert any form of life threatening situations.
Speaking during the opening address, the State’s Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Solomon Olasupo said the Command had resolved to make security education an integral part of their media partnership program with the view that when a journalist is involved in the education of the public, the rate of security awareness will improve.
Olasupo observed that journalists and other media workers are always at risk while discharging their duties, hence the need for them to understand the workings of security operations.
He said the NSCDC command therefore contributed its quota by training the journalists, to ensure they have adequate security education.
Mr. Olasupo also disclosed that after training 100 primary school pupils on security consciousness in 2016, there are ongoing plans to “train primary school pupils and secondary schools students in peace and conflict management”.
