Christian Proprietors has Allege aTactical Move to Erode Christian Values in Nigeria
By Pam Moses.
The highest Decision Making Body of Christians independent school proprietors known as the Association of Christian Schools in Nigeria (ACSN) has raise alarmed that there is a tactical move to erode Christian education and values from the nation’s educational system.
The body in an interactive session with journalists in Jos at the ECWA Guest House identified the imposition of Arabic Education on school children as one of such moves.
It equally viewed the recent ban on private schools teachers from supervising WAEC as a direct affront on Christian education.
Similarly, the body alleged the sidelining of Christian schools in the distribution of government grants in some states.
The ACSN through its President, Ekaeta Enang therefore challenged the government to balance the margin or risk losing the goodwill of the affected schools.
It particularly threatened to boycott WAEC exams if obvious anomalies were not addressed.
The body among others demanded the recruitment of Christian theological seminary graduates to teach Christian Religious Studies in Secondary schools.
ACSN Position Below:
“The Christian Schools demand that the laws and legislations that prohibit TEACHER’S from Christian Schools from supervising WAEC examinations be made available, as they have been participating in this process over the years based on written communications that are on record.
“The stigmatization of teachers from Christian Schools as cheats is most unacceptable to us. We, therefore, demand that WAEC reverses this decision forthwith and tenders a public apology to the Christian Schools for this misrepresentation.
“If WAEC does not reverse this decision and planned implementation, all Christian Schools will boycott future WAEC examination.
“The meeting agreed that WAEC should be involving all stakeholders in the planning, conduct of examinations, resolving all the issues affecting the process as well as in the final decisions on related matters for ownership and collective wisdom. ACSN is willing and to make positive contribution, as a key stakeholder, in this regard.
“Given the historical contribution of Christian Education towards Nigerian Educational system and development of the society, disqualifying Christian teachers from supervising WAEC contradicts what we rightfully deserve and which has done irreparable damage to our reputation, character, integrity and identity as a group.
“In view of the above, the Association of Christian Schools demand that WAEC cancels the order and reverts to status quo where credible teachers from Christian Schools in Nigeria were involved in the supervision of WAEC examinations. Failure to do so, all Christian Schools nationwide will withdraw from future WAEC examinations”.
