A retired General and a delegate at the National Conference, General Jonathan Temlong, said it will take longer than expected before the
over 200 Chibok secondary school girls abducted will be rescued, saying “what we are faced with here is an asymmetric war and
asymmetric warfare is a very delicate operation”.

Temlong in a chat with journalists said, “As powerful as America is how many years did it take them to rescue the whole of
American Embassy in Iraq that were adducted? Even when they attempted a rescue mission it failed because it was a delicate situation.

“So, these are very delicate operations that even in the military it is not every unit that partakes in such operations; there are
specialized units that take part in the operation.

The retired General added that, “It took America over 5 years to get Bin Ladin and with about how many billions of dollars spent to get
him, so what we are faced with here is an asymmetric war and asymmetric warfare is a very delicate operation.

“Asymmetric warfare is population centric; who do you know is a terrorist? They are Nigerians, it’s just a few other ones who come in
and they don’t even stay with you.

“No country has defeated insurgency within the period you think we can defeat it. Go and read history, I’m a student of military history; it
took the British so many years to solve the problem in Northern Ireland, Malaysia was not an essay problem, I can go on and on. He
stressed.

Temlong called on Nigerians to support government in its fight against terrorism, “There should be synergy as we try to defeat terrorism.

“You can see how the world has risen against them, especially on the Chibok girls’. Our girl’s, we want them alive, we want to re-unite
them with their families but if anybody pushes the government into any panicking measure we will end up bringing the dead bodies of these
girls. He warned.
