In keeping true to his promise of clearing the entire salary backlog of civil servants and pensioners in Plateau, Governor Lalong in the course of the week cleared the entire backlog – sending civil servants into frenzy ahead of the yuletide season.

Investigations by our correspondent suggests that most banks in Jos have become beehives, totally heaving with activities as civil servants try to withdraw their monies. See image below: Photo credit – Nengak Ishaku

This will be the first time in nearly a decade that Government is not owing civil servants any monies.  And words of approbation and cheers to Governor Lalong can be heard from civil servants across the state. Many of them who spoke to our correspondent, said they can’t remember the last time that they were not owed salaries, saying the act (by the Governor) of clearing the entire salary mess and starting from a blank page is highly welcome.

It would be recalled that Plateau state government earlier this month, got a refund of N14 billion out of a total of N75 billion from the Paris-London club debt fund. This payment, it would appear has been instrumental in assisting the government to prioritize and clear the salary backlogs.
