CAN Women wing berates government of plateau state for resurgence of nepotism and ethnicity in government

 

The women wing of CAN Plateau State held its 2018 convention with the theme – “The return of the Lord to Zion” ( Isaiah 52:8b) , the chairperson Mrs Rhoda Jehota while addressing the participating women appreciate the Government of plateau state for the following gains recorded :

1. Payment of salary and social welfare
2. Release of backlog of promotions across all cadre of the civil service
3. Absorption of sacked staff of PRTVC and recruitment of new teachers
4. Payment of pensions and percentage payment of gratuities ( death benefits are still outstanding)
5. Continuity on inherited projects
6. Stability in the educational system( tertiary, primary and secondary)

The chairperson further comment, calls on Government of plateau state to ‘re examine its position on the following , “ first and most importantly, as Christian women, we condemn in totality the killings in our villages and we call on the government to note that, the primary responsibility of government is the protection of lives”
Furthermore we call on the government to re-examine its posture on the following :

1. Unhealthy resurgence of nepotism and ethnicity in government department, this is seen even within the civil service structure
2. Procrastination on a lot of government actions earlier promised and pronounced in particular example the rebuilding of the terminus main market, regularization of tricycle transport among many
3. Over bloated government bureaucracy instead of lean structure as a reflection of the trying financial times
4. Recruitment of teachers did not take cognizance of those who have toiled for years as PTA teachers but was more political patronizing
5. There is a serious departure from the ideology and heritage of the plateau as the hub of Christianity
7. Redemption of pledges to churches and support still remains a big issue hence pose as a major challenge
8. The rise of political youth support groups who engage in an unruly behaviour, including fighting and molestation of ordinary citizens
9. Poor environmental and environmental sanitation within the metropolis
10. The resurgence of okada riders with all the security thread
11. The visible unhealthy relationship and rivalry among appointees of government

13. Springing of up of new and unplanned settlements and the high rise of indiscriminate buildings within the jos metropolis
14. The rise communities around university of jos, which over the years have pose serious security challenge to our children, indeed many have been killed on that road.Furthermore, the women leader advocate that Christian women have not benefited from PlASMEDA ‘s loans.

Many distinguish Christian women were also honoured – Mrs Susan Jamfa , Rev.Dr.kaikama, and Rev Dr. Kwashi .present in the event was the Governor of Plateau state represented by the SSA on women affairs and the SSA on religious affairs and the Hon commissioner of women affairs
