BYM @ 40; THE TIME IS NOW OR NEVER.

YEYPYENG SHILA NE SHEY BE KURU BE NASS A BYM.

The coming together of people to form associations and build them to become organizations of great repute, maintain relevance and work towards achieving set goals has not been an easy task for men.

However, for the BEROM YOUTH MOULDERS ASSOCIATION, it’s a story of massive success and overcoming of mountains and rising through the valleys and shadows of darkness that have tried to enveloped and truncate this pride of the Berom Nation, *”the ancestors smiled at us”. Since from its earliest days of formation, the BYM has faced and survived many struggles that have overpowered other similar youth organization. *Shou yin de fwom rwat a be Rass vwel Berom* Respect to all the past leaders and stakeholders of the BYM particularly it’s first pioneer President, Da Arc. PD Gyang and all those who served after him.

Fastfoword to this day, the BYM voice, its ability and capacity to not only be heard but to intimidate whoever dares the Nation seem to be deemed and lacking in strength and vigor typical of a youth body in the 21th century. The modus operandi, style and fashion of running this kind of movement has since evolved; the dynamics of our time are dering us and given us tough times and situations to profer solutions to.

For instance, the BYM that is majorly a breeding and moulding ground for young aspiring leaders in the land where this emerging leaders will be cultured in the Berom values and norms by inculcating in them patrotism for our land and initiate them into becoming BESUGA for the defense and promotion of our collective interest and heritage; Unfortunately in the recent past it has become a platform and a tool of manipulation in the hands of political interest individuals and groups for personal or group interest. This should not be BYM.

In the meantime, we must also acknowledge efforts by some leaders and stakeholders who have given their time, energy and resourcefulness to ensure the BYM is alive and active to this day. Worthy of mention and with no preferential treatment, Da Francis Jamang and all those who stood with him in 2008/9 when a temporary set back was witnessed in the history of the youth body. He stood firm as a SUGA and today we can tell the story how we overcome.

To write the history of an organization such as BYM which is 40years is not easy to put everything to pen and paper. Therefore, I want to salute all the past leadership and the present for their love and sacrifice in defending our common identity.

Conclusion: We must all resist the temptation of allowing our personal interest to hinder the growth of this noble organization and strong voice of the Nation which our HEROS’ past laboured to build and sustained. We must sanitize our processes in BYM and adopt modern way of doing things yet never loosing our focus that we are a sociocultural organization not a political wing of any party or government.
We must introduce strong, clear and specific strategies of preserving our cherished culture, heritage and raising leaders for the land using the BYM platform to build all and not for a few.

Rhetorical question: In the next 10 years BYM will be 50years, where and how do we see ourselves?
Do we have an AGENDA?

DO WE HAVE A STANDARD FOR LEADERSHIP RECRUITMENT?
