Plateau: Village Chief Murdered in Bokkos

A village Head in Bokkos LGA, Plateau State was yesterday shot dead in his home.

According to multiple sources, the Chief, the Madakin Garam, Tarangol village, Mr. Amos Marit was trailed to his house in Fakkos in the late hours of Sunday 19th November, 2017.

Plateau State Police Public Relation officer DSP Mathias Tyopev confirmed the killings of the Village head.

“Yesterday 19/11 /2017 at about 2100hrs, one Enoch Michael and Christopher Marit all male of Fokkos in Bokkos Local Govt went and reported that on the same date at about 2035hrs unknown gunmen broke into the premises of one Amos Merit (the Madaki Tarangol) 57yrs old and shot him at the back, He was rushed to Luna Hospital by the duo but later died while receiving treatment. Body deposited in the same hospital. Investigation is on”.

He was said to have received several threats prior to the attack and there is no clear who was responsible.

Our reporter gather that this is about the fifth of such incidences in the local government in two years. In 2016, a village chief was murdered around Kwatas village.

Shortly later in June, a Second Class Chief from Monguna district was murdered.
Two weeks after the incident, the Paramount ruler of Bokkos was killed.

Earlier this year 2017, a newly elected chief in Monguna was again murdered.
Authorities had since the murder of the Paramount ruler, Lazarus Agai promised to fish out the perpetrators but no report has been released yet.
