Embattled Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He joined the opposition party at its State Secretariat in Benin.

The party confirms the development in a tweet on his official handle.

Obaseki had been disqualified from seeking reelection by the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) on the grounds that he possesses “defective qualifications.”

His declaration for the opposition party has been widely anticipated since his disqualification by the APC after which he met with his counterparts in River State Gov. Wike whom is seen by many as a power broker in the PDP.

He has also met with other PDP Governors and the PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus among other PDP stakeholders.

Recall that yesterday the NWC of PDP shifted it’s Governorship primaries in Edo State a move seen by many as connected to Gov. Obaseki expected declarations for the party.
