A member representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bitrus Kaze, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan and the Nigerian military over their recent successes in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents, describing it as a rekindled hope for Nigerians.
Kaze, however, warned that the terrorists might have resorted to guerrilla warfare tactics now that they are overpowered.
“As the rains begin and farming activities commence, we must all watch and pray against terrorist incursions especially in the nights. Our people must remain very vigilant and take every precautionary measure to safeguard the lives and property of our individual households.”
The lawmaker, in a statement, observed that, “Many Nigerian towns captured by the insurgents have already been re-taken by our troops; we are very optimistic that Nigeria’s territorial integrity will be fully restored in no distant future. Our hearts are gladdened by media reports of fleeing insurgents captured dressed like women, others capsized and perished in their numbers while trying to ferry across the Lake Chad.”
Kaze, who had vehemently condemned the several attempts made by the federal government to grant amnesty to Boko Haram, said the recent huge successes by the military could be associated with the new military hardware and the professionalisation of the military under the President Goodluck Jonathan administration.
He also identified the regional collaboration with his Chadian, Camerounian and Nigerien counterparts, and the collaboration by the African Union as contributory factors.
“The recent visit to the war front by President Jonathan was a high morale booster for our hitherto ill-equipped troops.”
The lawmaker noted that “When our troops failed, we decried their failure, now that they are winning, we have the responsibility to celebrate their gallantry. We are proud of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; they deserve the accolades of all patriotic Nigerians.”
While condemning the recent bomb attacks on innocent Nigerians in Kano, Potiskum, Gombe and Jos among others, Kaze called on the citizens, especially in Jos and Plateau State in general not to be carried away by the successes of the military campaigns, warning that ”Plateau remains their favourite target.”
