Former Defence Minister, General Theophilus Danjuma(rtd) on Saturday decried the security situation in the north orchestrated by the activities of the Boko Haram sect. He was speaking at the launch of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria’s N50b Phase II Development project. Former military president General Ibrahim Babangida and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar also spoke against the backdrop of the worrying situation in the region. The northern leaders decried the increasing poverty in the region which they blamed on lack of access to education.
Danjuma displeased by the inability of Government to fight the insurgency of the sect stated that the ceremony provided a platform to reflect on the recent past while emphasising that it is not time to lay blames on the actions or inaction of others. Babangida who was the chairman of the event stated that security, peace and progress which we hope for ourselves will not be possible as long as the poverty and ignorance level of the masses is not tackled. He called on Governments at all levels to live to their expectations and improve the educational sector while tasking individuals to contribute their quota.

Dignitaries who were present to witness General Danjuma being honoured with a Doctorate degree includes Vice President Nnamadi Sambo, Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal, Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, Professor Jerry Gana and former Senate President Ken Nnamani.
