News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has on Tuesday 26th November 2013, cancelled its local government primaries in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau due to the insecurity and tension in the area, i.e., following the gruesome murder of approximately 40 people by yet to be identified assailants in the area.
The Sole Administrator of the Local Government, Mr Habila Dung, announced the cancellation when he spoke with members of the party in Barkin-Ladi. He said following the unfortunate incident, he held a meeting with relevant stakeholders and arrived at a decision to cancel the primaries, adding that the party would select its candidates by other means, perhaps through consensus.
ViewPointNigeria reports that primaries were held in other local government areas of the state, except for Wase and Jos North, where the exercise was suspended by the state government because of security reports.
It would be recalled that four villages in Barkin Ladi were last night attacked by assailants, leaving approximately 40 people dead. ViewpointNigeria is liaising closely with the relevant communities to bring bring further updates in this respect.
