News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alh. Bamanga Tukur, has reached out to the Governors of Plateau state (Mr. Jonah Jang) and his counterpart in Akwa Ibom state (Mr. Godswill Akpabio) to help him save his job. This is following immense pressure from above for him to resign and pave way for a more acceptable candidate who can unify the party and prevent the mass exodus to APC ahead of the 2015 elections.
Feeling the pressure, Alh. Tukur reportedly held a meeting at his Abuja residence with some selected PDP elders from his native Adamawa State to fashion out ways of averting the imminent. At the end of the meeting, it was reported that he delegated the elders to reach out to the two governors (Jang and Akpabio) whom he perceives as powerful, and who he reckons can swing the game his way. It was leant he decided to reach out to the two governors because of their apparent closeness to the President and because Mr. Jang is the chairman of the faction of the NGF recognised by GEJ while Mr. Akpabio is the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.
Those mandated by Tukur to meet with the two governors were former Corps Marshall of the FRSC Mr. Haladu Hanaiya, the spokesperson of the Adamawa PDP elders Forum, Alh. Umar Ardo and the former Governor of old Gongola State Mr. Wilberforce Juta.
When contacted, Mr. Ardo told newsmen that the committee had met with the Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Jonah Jang –claiming that the meeting was a huge success.
