Following governor Simon Lalong’s constitution of a 14 man peace committee comprising Berom and Fulani elders to resolve the persistent attacks on the Plateau – several comments have continued to trial the announcement. In one of such, Hon. Dachung Bagos – coordinator of the #PlateauSpeaks campaign released a statement advising the governor not be misguided into assuming that the persistent attack is simply a Berom/Fulani issue, but one that affects the entire state and the middle belt.

In his statement, he said – “firstly, I appreciate the governor’s initiative to constitute a peace committee and his desire to see that the killings on the Plateau are halted, however governor Lalong needs to understand that the killings on the Plateau is not simply a Berom/Fulani issue, but one that affects all of Plateau state from Barkin Ladi, to Bokkos, Langtang South, Wase, Shendam and Riyom. “Though Beroms are the  worst affected, I wish to advice that government starts treating these killings as a Plateau and middle belt issue as opposed to simply a Berom one”.

Further more, Bagos advised the government to widen the scope of the committee to accommodate other tribes who have equally been victims of Fulani attacks. He also requested that the government sets up a camp for internally displaced people so that they can be catered for.
