The Nigerian 2015 presidential election has been said to meet the standards required of the continent and region. This was stated by the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) observer group on Monday.

The Group praised the conduct of the election and called on aggrieved politicians to go to court rather than instigate violence. AUEOM said that its preliminary findings showed that the election was “conducted in a peaceful atmosphere within the framework that satisfactorily meets the continental and regional principles of democratic elections”.

The statement added that the election was generally peaceful during accreditation as well as the actual voting and counting process. It said that there are well laid down procedures for challenging any dispute of the process and concluded that the group will continue observing the post-electoral process.
