Academic activities at Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, face imminent disruption following a 14-day strike ultimatum issued by the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Speaking in an interview, with VPN lead reporter , Dakwom Longgul, the ASUU PLASU Chairperson, Comrade Dr. Vincent Choji, confirmed that the branch has received authorization from the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) to initiate industrial action if their grievances remain unaddressed
The 14-day ultimatum commenced on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and is set to expire at midnight on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Comrade Choji confirmed that the institution suffers from critical manpower shortages, particularly in teaching roles. The university has continued to rely heavily on visiting lecturers and resource persons from other institutions and industries to cover essential course offerings.
The ultimatum follows resolutions reached at ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja on August 8–9, 2026. The national body granted permission to several state-owned university chapters—including PLASU—to proceed with industrial action over non-implementation of signed agreements, outstanding salary structure updates, and lingering welfare concerns.
Comrade Choji emphasized that the compliment of unresolved issues processed through the zonal level to the NEC represents long-standing grievances that can no longer be ignored.
With the countdown actively running, students and stakeholders are watching closely to see whether the Plateau State Government and university management will intervene before the August 25 deadline.
