In this particular instance, another round of mindless killings has occurred in both Plateau and Taraba state with approx. 14 people said to have lost their lives.

In Taraba state, about seven persons were killed on Sunday night and several houses burnt during an attack on Buwa village in Ibi local government area by armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. A resident of the village, Mr. Iwuaak told journalists at Ibi that the armed men, numbering over 20 invaded the village at about 1:15am and started shooting residents and burning houses. Iwuaak, said he narrowly escaped the attack, added that the invaders were identified as Fulani herdsmen who may have migrated from Benue and Nasarawa states as a result of the crisis between Tivs and Fulanis in those areas. He called on the government to assist the people by drafting more security personnel to the affected villages to save them from the attackers.

When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, ASP Joseph Kwaji told journalist that only one person was killed by the attackers at Buwa village, adding that the command has drafted more of its men to the area to bring the situation under control. This number is significantly lower than those confirmed by eyewitnesses on ground in the area and may not be far- fetched from the typically reduction of numbers of dead people by police and government personnel.

In a related development, seven people were feared killed yesterday during an attack on Wase town in Wase local government area of Plateau State by gunmen who invaded the community again. Our correspondent gathered from impeccable sources in Wase town that the gunmen had crossed over to the community from Zango village, and were shooting at anything in sight. A youth leader from Wase, journalists on phone that the youths in the town were left to defend themselves against the assailants as security operatives were demoralised by the alleged shooting of a youth from the community the previous day. He said, Wase youths had repelled the attackers beyond Zango village where they counted seven corpses.

When journalists visited the Special Task Force (STF) Headquarters in Jos, the STF media and information officer, Captain Salisu Mustapha was said to be out of town on an official assignment. Also, the STF commander, Major General David Enetie did not answer the call put through to him or respond to a text message by our correspondent. However, the police public relations officer (PRO), Felicia Anselm confirmed the attack but said she could not give details.
