News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that a group known as Plateau State Youths Coalition for Consolidation has condemned a petition written by the Plateau Patriotic Front, against Governor Jonah Jang alleging misappropriation of the state’s SURE-P funds.
The group said the petition, which was submitted to the speaker Plateau State House of Assembly “lacks substance and was simply a case of political witch hunt”.
It will be recalled that the Plateau Patriotic Front in a petition against Jang, dated May 15, 2014 accused the government of mismanagement and misappropriation of SURE-P funds, illegal collection of loans among other issues.
According to Mr Abdullahi Ali, the chairman of Plateau State Youths Coalition for Consolidation, the petition “is aimed at tarnishing Governor Jang’s image to portray him as a corrupt man.”
The group, which described itself as “non-religious and non-tribal but a politically inclined group of conscious Plateau youths,” called on the governor to remember his promise to bring in a youth as his successor for consolidation.
They also called on Plateau people to be “faithful to the Plateau vision and give their maximum support for a worthy youth, regardless of ethnicity, region, gender or religion”.
Ali Abdullahi, while responding to a question on the agitations of people from other zones, who feel that it is their turn to occupy the state’s seat of power, said “zoning should not be at the expense of quality and competence”.
