A former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, on Sunday, condemned the attack on Ancha village, Miango District in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State by Fulani herdsmen with a call on the communities to always be prepared and vigilant.
Also, a socio-political organisation, Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum has condemned the killings with a call on security agencies to arrest the perpetrators.
Specifically, Jang, representing Plateau North Senatorial District in the Senate, advised the various communities “not to always go to bed with their two eyes closed.”
During the attack, which took place on Thursday, 19 persons were confirmed dead while no fewer than five villagers were injured.
While appreciating the efforts of the security agencies in Plateau State, Jang, in a statement he personally signed in Jos, said more needed to be done through intelligence gathering “to help the agencies nip such terrible situations in the bud.”
He added, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the attack by herdsmen on one of our communities, Ancha village in Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau North Senatorial District.
“This should also serve as a wake-up call on our various communities not to always go to bed with their two eyes closed. Some level of vigilance must be brought to bear on our efforts in community development.”
