The Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Dokpai, a federal ward in Pankshin South which is a state assembly constituency under Pankshin local government area, on Monday 19th October, 2020 received a number of decampees numbering one hundred and fifty persons to its fold. Our correspondent reports that the event took place at Central Primary School Dokpai in an occasion specially organised by the ward Exco of the party to welcome those who indicated interest in joining the ADP after dumping various other political parties.
The occasion was witnessed by special distinguished personalities and guests which include the state organising secretary of the party Mr. Zumtong Markus Tok who represented the national and state exco of the party, the Exco of the party at the local government level as well as unit Exco and party faithfuls across the ward, Pankshin south constituency and the local government as a whole.
While laying the foundation for the official reception of the decampees, the chairman of the ADP in Dokpai ward, Mr. Mangtu Anbe noted that the party has become the safe haven where everybody must run to for safety and to be rescued from the apron strings of poverty, hunger and untold hardship occasioned by bad leadership which has been the hallmark of other political parties that have brought leaders onboard who have achieved nothing other than superintending over a failed Nigerian nation. Mr. Anbe recalled that since 2015 he has been fondly called Noah’s ark which is also the name the ADP is also being fondly called in the ward at the moment.
“Having suffered untold hardship, we hereby call on everybody to run into this ark with its doors and windows still widely open for all who are willing to come in so that we can all be together where we will be safe.
“This is a struggle to get justice for ourselves, to repair our land and to help our children. The ward chairman noted.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Elder Suwa Sukoba declared that they were joining the ADP because they hold the firm belief that it is now the only political party that would guarantee greater dividends of democracy to their people after other ones have failed them.
In his words “In politics, if you are in a party and it is not working for you, you can quit that platform and follow another one. It is not an inheritance. I believe that politics has to do with winning elections and when we win, the people we elect must take care of us and do great works for the people so that all can benefit. Elder Suwa was quick to caution the ADP to avoid the injustice that made the decampees leave other political parties and advised the exco at the local government level to be coming around from time to time so as to always encourage and guide them.
Meanwhile, the ward chairman of the party had earlier led the team from the national and state levels as well as the local government Exco to pay homage to the traditional ruler of Dokpai before proceeding to the reception ground of the event.
At the palace of the traditional ruler, the chairman of the party at the local government level, Nensuka Ishaku Gobum appreciated God for safe journey mercies from Pankshin to Dokpai. He disclosed to the traditional ruler that they were members of Action Democratic Party who have been invited by their members in Dokpai ward and who happen to be his subjects as the traditional ruler of the land. He added that the aim of the invitation was to have them join in welcoming new members into the party. On his part, an elder of the party from the local government, Elder Dauda Manye pointed out that “before you enter somebody’s house, you have to knock first, if the door is opened for you, then you go in”. He then thanked the traditional ruler for the warm reception. Also speaking, the national as well as the state representative of the party at the event Zumtong Markus Tok said “it is our responsibility, especially myself as the state organising secretary at the state level, to bring people into the party. As you opened the door for us to come in, we pray God to bless you in manifolds and give you long life and wisdom to lead your people to greatness.
Reacting to the submissions, the traditional ruler reminded them first that the traditional institution do not participate in politics but that they welcome everybody who brings progress to their land such as this. He told them that all who have come with such needs in the past have never suffered any form of disgrace. According to him “This was how others start and later grow to become very big such that many people were able to benefit from it. When you put God first, act sincerely and carry everybody along, you will be victorious and if you are victorious, don’t forget those who participated in the building process”.
Membership cards were given to the decampees to officially welcome them onboard as legitimate members of the party.
Goodwill messages came from the ward adviser Elder Markus Nandom, the ward youth leader Mr Dantala Chinme, the ward women leader Mrs Domicit Kopdi, Elder Christopher Suwa, the local government youth leader Mr Vilji Morgak, the local government women leader Mrs Nanbam Samuel, the local government vice chairman Mrs Joy Elijah, the local government Ex-Officio Mrs Hadiza Usman, Elder Dauda Manye and the national and state Exco through the state organising secretary Mr Zumtong Markus Tok.
