The Adamawa State PDP has adopted the delegates that were elected for the botched October, 11th 2014 bye election as its delegates for the 2015 general elections, excluding Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Dr. Idi Hong.
Rising from a stakeholders meeting of the party with the committee sent by the National secretariat of the party took the decision after an exhaustive meeting that lasted several hours.
The Ward Congress Committee for Adamawa State headed by Senator Alabi from Oyo state with Daniel Gamal, Plateau and S.H. Asharif from Yobe State as members agreed with the stakeholders to adopt the old delegates with a little modification in some Local Governments to meet the yearnings of their members due to the security situation in the state.
A source at the meeting told Viewpointnigeria that the recent security breach in the state do not call for the conduct of delegates election saying that “It will be heartless to embark on such exercise considering the security situation in the state,”.
The source disclosed that almost all the stakeholders have agreed to the adoption of the old delegates, “With the exception of former EFCC Chairman Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and former minister of State for health Dr. Idi Hong none among the stakeholders objected to the adoption of the old delegates.
“When they realized that majority of the stakeholders preferred the adoption of the old delegates, they kept quite as they realized they will not have the day,” the source noted. Meanwhile, a political pressure group, under the banner of Adamawa People’sProgressive Movement (PPM), has kicked against zoning Peoples Democratic Party governorship ticket to Central Senatorial district of the state.
The group described the statement credited to the former Political Adviser to the President, Ahmed Gulak, who on behalf of 14 other gubernatorial aspirants in botched 11th, October, 2014 bye election in the state claimed have concurred that the Central Senatorial zone will produce the next governor as his personal view not that of Adamawa people.
The group vowed to resist through democratic means any attempt by the National Working Committee(NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)to disqualify Governor Bala Nggilari ahead of November party primaries.
Barrister Sunday Wugira, the convener of PPM who made this known in Yola, while speaking to newsmen, said it has come to their knowledge that some anti-democracy elements within the ruling PDP are mounting pressure on the NWC of the party to disqualify Governor Nggilari on alleged zoning arrangement.
According to him, “It was out of the volition of the movement, a nomination form has been obtained for Nggilari because PPM has seen in him as a stabilizing force, hence the first time in the history, will Adamawa citizens rally round a personality of great repute, like him and to the extent of footing his bill without ethnic and religious biases”.
Governor Ngillari did not ask anybody to campaign for him but the Adamawa people have seen a good leadership quality in him and decided to buy him PDP governorship nomination form.
“We are all members of the PDP, how can PDP tell Adamawa people not to bring our candidate from the zone we wish PDP should know that the peoples decision is supreme so far it is not out of the law of the country what people of Adamawa want that is what is going to happen” he asked rhetorically.
