News available to us suggests that a car in the convoy of Governor Simon Lalong was involved in a ghastly motor accident on Friday afternoon along Mikang town, leaving two police officers attached to the convoy dead.

It would be recalled that ViewPointNigeria reported of Lalong’s trip to the Southern sentorial zone to commission several projects (including one in Ajikamai – his locality). The incident was said to have occurred on the governor’s return – having commissioned most of the projects.

Yet to be verified reports suggests that the policemen were hanging precariously on a Hilux van belonging to Operation Rainbow (the state’s private security outfit) when the driver of the van took a sharp left turn as he navigated a bend. The force of the sharp turn was said to have flung the officers off the vehicle. They landed dangerously rupturing vital organs – thus leading to fatal injuries.

Reports by eye witnesses say – one of the victims died on the spot, while another was seriously injured but died before he could be rushed to the hospital.

The incident was said to have gone virtually unnoticed by the remainder of the convoy, given the speed they were travelling at.

Confirming the accident, the state Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent Abuh Emmanuel however said he has not received details on the incident from the Mikang Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
