A STATEMENT RELEASED BY THE VICE-PRESIDENT (NORTH-CENTRAL) OF THE NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA, (NYCN), COMRADE SELE SEAN PWAJOK, (MIASS) ON THE 7TH OF AUGUST, 2018.

ABUJA, Nigeria.

A WAKE UP CALL. (DESIRE TO SERVE)

I wish to most sincerely, Thank each and everyone who did not only support and pray for our overwhelming success, but the whole of the zone that have come together to in one spirit, choose us to take the lead and mandate in pursuing the collective progress of those we represent.

The congresses successfully held between July 19 – 25, 2018 at a keenly contested event, with the full support of the Gombe State Government and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, which to the glory of God Almighty, we emerged victorious.

This is a wake up call as we have accepted the duty of making huge impacts in addressing key objectives aimed at making the best of prospects to develop and encourage youths across the nation to a place of pride, harmony, hard work, perseverance and productivity.

Upon being sworn-in, we swung into action by initiating preliminary efforts to harmonize key areas and groups, with a compass of foresight and the instruments of peace across most fractured zones. Programmes are on-going to ensure a smooth kick-off of NYCN activities across states and zones with a precise timeline to establish trust beyond political, religious, ethnic, gender and class lines. An ambition to come under a moral code of progress and exclude all limiting factors on our way to success.

I have come to a point of reason where I agree that the failure to learn from history can more likely, expose us to the risk from repeating, rather than rewriting mistakes from the past. The tragic reality of confronting the same instances with similar methods gives a bad taste to learning.

Our Youths have employed a pattern to which every public intention, regardless of the transparency of purpose, are treated with an initial suspicion due to certain failures in the past to which we are determined to correct or ultimately, from the errors made by those given an earlier chance to turn things around without success. Kudos too, must be accorded to all those who came before us to lay the foundations we intend to thrive upon going forward.

At any given time, leadership in governance shall occupy the codes of service. As much as the difficulty is in place to access the trust of the people, we have decided to try anyway. Let the depth of public trust be our motivation and let the losses accrued, be a focus to our progressive approach in elevating the plight of those we have chosen to serve in totality.

So in the face of injustice and suffering, it signals a clear demand for courage and determination on the part of leadership to gear towards the path of conscience and reason and lead the dictates of hope, not to the political class but to the most vulnerable. Those who have invested their trust in the system to be secured and enabled to live in an empowered society where their interests are protected and their talents, encouraged. It takes the strength and wisdom of sincerity and the world we live in today, it has become increasingly difficult to appeal to such trusts from the masses.

The time has never been more appropriate for the young generation whom we have pledged to serve to a maximum, to lift the burden of sportsmanship and provide a stem that forestall a generational crackdown due to the absence of a patriotic desire to take responsibility and succumb to duty.

A voice to spark the change we all deserve and the confidence to promote the basic gains of true leadership and adequate fellowship. I wish to stretch out my hands to those with a similar mindset as we are indeed, in perilous times.

We are faced with a daunting task of uniting across board and with the new duty I have taken as the zonal representative to uplift the plights of all the youths across the middle belt (NORTH CENTRAL) under the auspices of the NYCN, I remain resolute to the tasks ahead. All preliminary efforts are under elaboration for all forms and ideas of progress to achieve fruition on the national map.

In the face of great challenges as it is and at a point where our youths are least expectant from a certain class of leadership, we have decided to come together and provide a new page in our history and to shine a light of hope through these difficult times.

I come to a close in the words of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR)…

“Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation – born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage – and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed today at home and around the world”

It is in line with such hopes that we as a people must come to a place of absolute reason, ignore injustice, foster peace, encourage development and strengthen our institutions in a way that when we are in retirement or in our graves, the knowledge of leaving the world in a better shape with greater prospect for those behind us, may reign over our souls in all modesty.
