Let me start by telling you a story about a young girl.

Once upon a time, a time not so far past, in a not so distant land, in a place where soon you will know, a child was born. I am almost certain that this girl child was welcome with joy and happiness like every other baby.

After her primary education, she was enrolled into Pitzer College for further education. Upon graduation, she was admitted to the University of Botswana where she obtained a Bachelor degree in Economics. Sometime later, not too long after study at the University of Botswana, she obtained a Masters’ degree in international economics from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom. In her spare time, she meditates travels and reads.

For days unending she worked her prowess in the areas of financial sector development, poverty alleviation, industrial development policy, trade related issues, trade and investment policy, trade and investment regulatory framework, macroeconomic policy, public debt management, export development, trade policy, among others.

Let’s take it a notch higher now, for a period of time after her post graduate studies in the United Kingdom, she worked as a trade economist in the Ghanaian Ministry of Trade and Industry. She also served as an economic consultant at Econsult Botswana, a Gaborone-based think-tank.

Did I mention she was born in 1987? Well if I didn’t, I just did and I’ll mention it one more time, she was born in 1987. In 2016, at the age of 28, former president of Botswana, Ian Khama nominated her to the parliament of Botswana where she was elected as a presidential nominee to the parliament.
Fast forward to April 4th 2018, the new incoming Presient Mokgweetsi Masisi, appointed Bogolo kenewendo as the minister of Investment, Trade and Industry. She was sworn in the same day.

Now the internet is going crazy with the story, it’s all over the news, the lazy ‘slay mamas’ are screaming, “girl power” and haters as usual are busy searching for the ‘unfindable’. But there is a story deeply embedded within this story.
There is a trend in Africa, a trend in the world and now is the time to climb into that boat and hitch a ride into history.
Wealth is empty without career’s legacy to put a jacket over it. Like water, wealth can never be remembered on the sands of time without legacy.

Some say she is 30, others say she is 31 but whichever it is, the point remains that her success has rocked the world and if the rumbling from her story is not enough to wake you up, then I don’t know what can. Maybe, just maybe, you are willing to sleep your life through.

Luck does not happen to anyone, time and chance happens to us all. There is a wide space between time and chance, what you take your time to fill that space with will determine what you make of your chance when it comes.

The world is bending in the direction of the young people and the wise ones are taking their time to build themselves, develop capacity and take steps to get closer to the sea so they can jump into the boat when it comes.

Find your corner, carve a niche for yourself, and concentrate your forces to nurture it to greatness.

Nothing is accidental about success and nothing is more intentional than success.

Let he that has an ear, hear.
