A news article reaching our desks indicates that on 26th June 2016, youth in Bokkos LGA met under the auspices of the Bokkos Progressive Youth Association (BPYA) to discuss sundry issues – including the state of affairs of the state and the raging grazing policy being advocated by the Plateau State Government.
At the end of the meeting, which commenced at 4pm and lasted into the early evening, the youth resolved as follows:
- BPYA and all its members fully support the rescue mission of Barrister Simon Lalong and his quest to make Plateau state better.
- BPYA has keyed into the government’s 5 point agenda for transforming the state from its previous economic and social state to loftier heights.
- BPYA rejects in totality any plan to site either a grazing ranch or reserve in Bokkos LGA.
In rejecting the ranching policy – the youth stressed that the people of Bokkos are not animal or cattle breeders but rather crop agriculturist whose primary need from government is the provision of fertilizer, farming utilities, dams for irrigation farming and the provision of means to tackle diseases which have blighted potato production.
They therefore appealed to the state government to come to their aide in these areas of challenge as their source of livelihoods depend on these.
