A political and cultural resurgence in the Hausa community of Jos North area of Plateau state is happening, with calls by key community stakeholders on the state Governor of Plateau to create a district for the large Hausa Fulani community in the state.

At the reception ceremony organised by the state branch of the National Qu’aranic recitation competition committee on behalf of the commissioner of information and communications, Mallam Nazif Ahmad – a respected elder in the state, Alh Yahaya Kwande called on the state governor to heed calls of past leaders to create a district for the Hausas in Jos.

Alh. Kwande who spoke passionately at the event, said the era of calling the majority Hausa/Fulani people in Jos-North settlers was over. He said, “we as Plateau citizens must learn to live and cohabit together as opposed to viewing each other as foes”.

Speaking further, he said in my previous discussions with the Gbong Gwom Jos, I made clear to him that the Hausa community in the local government should get more able representation.

For the exalted seat of the Gbong Gwom to be taking advise from ordinary ward heads in the Hausa community is disrespectful to the seat of the Gbong Gwom. These ward heads have to be exalted to higher status such that they can communicate appropriately with the Gbong Gwom.

When ViewPointNigeria’s correspondent spoke to Jamilu Mohammad at the recitation competition, he reiterated the appeal to the distinguish governor to heed the call saying that such effort will foster peaceful coexistence in the city.

Two other people who spoke to our correspondent said that they shall also lobby the currently minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Solomon Dalung whom they said is much more accessible and proactive than most political office holders.
