News reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that a member of the Special Task Force (STF) in Plateau State was yesterday fatally stabbed by a suspected dissident early on Monday along Muhammadu Wada Street in Jos. The soldier whose identity could not be immediately verified at the time of filing in this report was said to have gone to the area to visit his girlfriend in the early hours of the morning when the attack took place.
The soldier is currently said to be hospitalised and responding to treatment. The circumstances surrounding the attack were not clear because the soldier was said to have been dressed in mufti and it is not known whether there was an argument or scuttle before the attack. A resident who pleaded not to be named, averred that the attack may be linked to complains by boys in the area that soldiers were snatching their girlfriends.
At the time of filing this report, palpable tension and apprehension was reported in the area, as residents feared that soldiers may storm the area and wreak havoc on them.
The incident was confirmed by the STF Media Officer Captain Salisu Mustapha -he stated that the victim was responding to treatment.
