Twenty seven persons have submitted applications for the post of provost at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Pankshin, as Professor David Wonang’s tenure ends tomorrow, ViewPointNigeria can report.
Findings by our correspondent however, reveals that with the impending handover of Wonang tomorrow, there will be a deadlock in the process, because there is no governing council in place to carry out the selection of a new provost as stipulated by the law.
Speaking to the college’s spokesperson, Istifanus Kyakmut, he told our correspondent that “the current situation where there is no governing council, puts the administration of the college in a very precarious position, and so to avoid making administrative errors, Professor Wonang will hand over to the deputy provost”.
Speaking further, he said “The last Governing Council advertised the position in the media but was dissolved by the President Buhari-led government before it could compile the list of applicants. As such, the provost will hand over tomorrow to the deputy provost”.
Also on the issue, Emmanuel Hemba, the college’s COEASU Chairman, described the steps taken by the management in averting the administrative blunder as “timely and in order.”
Hemba said that such action would help avoid creation of a vacuum in the administration of the college and the consequences thereof. The chairman described as “unfortunate’’ the inability of the education ministry to constitute a new Governing Council for the college.
“We are mindful of problems that may occur if an acting provost is appointed, because there are certain approvals that he/she cannot make”, he said.
