Jos — The Federal College of Education (FCE) in Jos, Plateau State, is billed to graduate 13,000 students with degrees and Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE) at its first convocation in 10 years. The FCE held its last convocation in 2006, only two years after it introduced a degree programme, according to the provost, Professor Longwap David Wonang.
Addressing newsmen yesterday, he said the last convocation was held before his appointment. The provost, who was flanked by the registrar, Chief Shetsan Yaksan and other members of management, as well as the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Istifanus Kyakmut, said the ceremony will enable students who are yet to collect certificates, despite completing their studies in the past ten years. He said part of the delay was caused by lecturers’ strike at the affiliate university, the University of Jos (UNIJOS), as well as inadequate manpower and funding. “It has been a problem for us, with the image of the college at stake. But we are now relieved that our students will now have certificates. Their parents too will be relieved,” Professor Wonang said.
