Minister of youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has commended management and staff of National Institute for Sports for the good work they are doing to ensure the institute produce quality coaches and sports managers for the country.
He made the commendation during his official visit to the Lagos to inspect facilities under his ministry.
According to him among all the facilities he visited in Lagos, the NIS stood out as the best even as he commended the Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the school Dr. Eke Kingdom Chukwudi for his foresight in not only maintaining industrial harmony and cleanliness of the school premises but also ensuring that the institute boosts of excellent and functional facilities.
“I am highly impressed with what I saw at the NIS. Kudos must go to the management for maintaining a clean environment and functional facilities in the institute. During the course of my visit, I discovered that the whole institute is wearing a new look and all the departments I visited are in excellent condition and I want to announce that the NIS is the best place I visited”, he emphasised.
Speaking to journalist on how he was able to achieve those successes within a few months since assumption of office as the Director/ Chief Executive of the Institution, Dr. Eke Kingdom Chukwudi attributed it to industrial harmony that has been existing since he came on board.
“Immediately I assumed office, I brokered peace between the management and Academic Staff Union who have been in industrial dispute for more than 18 months over lack of transparency and accountability which helped in creating industrial harmony in the school.
“We also ensured that all outstanding allowances owed both academic and non- academic staff were settled which changed staff attitude to work. Apart from this, student’s welfare has been attended to which led to the provision of social amenities such as regular water supply and procurement of a new generator for the library to enable them have easy access to photo-copy materials at subsidized rate.
The Director while promising not to relent in his efforts at ensuring that the institute takes its rightful position appealed to the Federal Government to make funds available to the school to enable it achieve its objective of producing World class coaches for the country.
“NIS as a research institute requires a lot of fund to enable it achieve its objectives and my appeal is that government should make more funds available to the school “, he concluded.
