The Governor of Plateau state Da Jonah Jang commiserated with families of the 14 children killed by a vehicle while jogging on the highway at Mazat village of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Eight of the children from the Boys Brigade and six from the Girls Guide of the area were on a morning jogging as part of their training before they were crushed to death by a car travelling from Bokkos.

Governor Jang described the incident as very shocking and sad while cautioning motorists against recklessness on the highway. He stated “We have lost precious leaders of tomorrow to somebody’s recklessness but all the same, only God knows why; He must have allowed it for a purpose. Only God can explain why this large number of young people should die at a go; it is not sickness, it is not war, yet a colossal loss”.

While calling on the families to take solace in God as the children died in the course of his service, he also enjoined them not to be discouraged by the incident but to allow their kids to join the Boys Brigade and Girls Guide as part of service to God in the church. The Governor called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to patrol the roads within the state to check on recklessness of drivers.

Chairman transition committee of Barkin Ladi LGA, Mr Emmanuel Loman had earlier thanked the Governor for the visit. Loman said the council has been witnessing various kinds of misfortune for some time and added that, “Only God knows why all these things are happening to us.”
