The tide appears to have turned for the APC, with a resounding victory at the Qu’anpan bye-election of 28th November 2015.
The APC candidate, Mr Eric Dakogol trounced his PDP counterpart Mr. Alloy Oliver Daboer in a keen contest, where the stakes were really high, given the very slim majority hitherto enjoyed by the PDP in the House (i.e., 13 to PDP and 11 to APC). It was a battle for the soul of the Plateau state house of assembly, because of the political jaggernaut in the house, where the opposition party enjoyed a majority ahead of the ruling APC party.
With the victory of Eric Dakogol, the tide appears to have turned squarely against any stronghold the PDP had on the house. Now the score equals at 12:12 in the House. And considering the fact the fact that PDP needlessly ceded the Speakership to APC, even when the enjoyed clear majority at 13 to 11, this current situation may spell real political upheaval for them in any coming elections.
The election was generally adduced peaceful and orderly, except for fringe reports of underage voting and fake agents in a few polling units across the constituency. Speaking to Newsman following the exercise, the INEC state commissioner Mr. Godwin Kwanga expressed pleasure at the conduct of the elections, saying it was mostly peaceful and without much glitches.
It would be recalled that this bye-election was triggered as a result of the untimely demise of one of the long serving members of the house Mr. Gideon Dashe (PDP) -who died on Tuesday 24th August following a brief illness.
